Story & Message
„For 20 years I felt like a musical illiterate, although I grew up in a typical and traditional classical music household. I spoke and thought in music, but I could not put my sound collages in my head on paper.

In 2017 I had a key experience: I got to know the music software Ableton Live and from one day to the next I was able to musically translate what was in my mind into music. Why not earlier? Because even today the stigmata still prevail that girls are given little to no introduction to technology.
I was sent from man to man to produce beats for me. As a woman I was supposed to sing and dance, play the piano or violin. I myself was also influenced and stuck: „Producing is far too technical, I can‘t do that.“
Exceptions confirm the rule and my partner encouraged me to give it a try and showed me the basics of theprogram. Two weeks later I recorded my first track. I was free.
The goal of my music is to transport exactly this feeling of independence and autonomy, of self-confidence and courage, which I felt at that very second, to empower other people and to open up this world much earlier to them that remained hidden from me for a long time.

Over the years, my community, which consists mainly of women and the LGBTQ+ scene, grew, all people who have to fight to be able to do what they want to do - to be who they are.
With the birth of my daughter I feel even more obliged to live equal rights. People from the LGBTQ+ scene belong to my family and my circle of friends and also professionally I prefer to work with them and with women and to make this visible in public.

VALENTIN - THE ARTIST
One of her first gigs was at Fusion Festival. Some say it is reminiscent of a female counterpart to Kraftwerk. Besides that she is also a founder, painter and mother. Her drums are driving and lashing, her German lyrics (sometimes mixed with English) unpredictably clear and her clarinet a shot in the heart. A newcomer with lifelong practice.
She comes from a family of classical musicians, gets her energy from her German hip hop influence and ends up in the techno club creating a sound that reflects her life. Her set could already be heard at Fusion Festival in 2018, in Berlin clubs since 2019 and as the support act of the German band MiA in 2021 on the Limbo Germany tour.

HANNAH VALENTIN -
The Person
Hannah Valentin was born into a family of musicians in Heidelberg in 1990 and was already on stage with her parents at the age of three. At the age of nine she reached for the clarinet in the living room, only a year later won first prizes with “Jugend Musiziert” and “Tonkünstlerverband”, only to stop again three years later. Since then she started singing lessons in pop genre with Lorna Dooley and began writing her own lyrics and melodies. After graduating from high school and spending time in Australia, she movedto Berlin in 2010, working as an actress in several films, on television and at the theatre. In 2015 she had her first art exhibition with paintings showing her diagnosis of MS, which she had received in 2005. (www.hannahvalentin.de).

Musically dissatisfied by what was being played in radio and clubs at the time, she discovered the Ableton Live program through her boyfriend in 2017. Just two weeks later, she finalized her first track. Shortly thereafter, she played a one-hour set solely with her own tracks at the Kabinett der Kuriositäten party series in Frankfurt am Main.
At the beginning of 2018, she became pregnant and, among other things, played at Fusion Festival until three weeks before giving birth.
With the birth of her daughter, she used the time to produce new music and played only a small selection of gigs during „baby-friendly hours”. She has been working closely with her manager Amanda Najem since the end of 2019 and focuses on visibility of the LGBTQ+ scene, which she is very involved in through her crew. She recently made her illness MS public and wants to contribute to the education and be a role model for young people with MS, because at the time she was 15, she lacked a role model.
